So that's why!?!?

Brayden has been wearing his right ear only this past month to strengthen it up equally to his left(older) ear. Keep this in mind as you read on.

I wake up this morning with a headache from you know where. Timmy is working the night shift this week so he is still in the bed sleeping. I get Brayden's cochlears out and put them both on this morning so he isn't loud and wake his daddy up. Plus we're back to two ears after a month of only one. I've been noticing that his right ear has been blinking slower than his left. At night we let him wear them both for an hour. I couldn't remember if it was doing that after the last mapping or not. So I email Val to see if this is normal for them not to be blinking at the same rate. Gage and Brooke don't use the light so she wasn't sure either. Well I call his audiologist and can't get an answer. As I sat there thinking, the monitor earphones came to mind. I go to my closet and get them out of his box. I hooked them up to the right ear and to my surprise I hear nothing. I keep talking and once I got really loud I could finally hear an alien version of my voice. Oh my gosh! This ear has been blinking at a different speed since a week after his last mapping session a month ago! So that means all this month he's been wearing right ear only he's either heard nothing or an alien voice! No wonder he's been so loud and frustrated! When Brayden doesn't have his ears on he's very loud. Well this whole month I've been thinking he's just been showing his bad side(the bad behavior). Now knowing his right ear has been broken explains it all. Him being loud, not responding back to us and us thinking he's just turning us off like he does. Ughhh, I'm so upset with myself for not checking it sooner! So stupid on my part. Well for now on the monitor earphones are going by his dry and store and every morning they WILL be checked! Now he's screaming and crying b/c he doesn't want to wear the back up right ear b/c he's hearing everything after not hearing for so long. UGHHH!!!

I just called hear always yesterday to get a replacement left processor since it's lose connecting with the controller(bottom). I somehow got ahold of the same lady that put the left ear order through. Which is weird. It's usually someone different everytime. It's a good thing we have a back up for the right ear. We'd really be in trouble if we didn't since both ears are broken right now. Well I have the left ear tapped together until the new one arrives. I'm also trying to get insurance to pay for a left ear back up. I hope we are able to get one.

Poor Brayden all this past month he couldn't hear us and here we were thinking he was just showing out. I feel so bad for him! I wish he would tell us when his "ears" aren't working. He won't even tell us when the batteries are dead. So aggravating! So I guess we'll be wearing right ear only for this month to make up for last month. Bad part is he's being going to speech this month working on the right ear only and it hasn't done a bit of good.

Ok, I'm being told to come on. Brayden is excited he's going to chick-fil-a. Maybe we'll have a good day!

I also look forward to when William is old enough and can communicate well enough to tell me what is going on - instead of relying on my own memory!

My memory is the worst these days. While at Chick-fil-a yesterday I paid for our meal. Well as the lady came back to give is our drinks I handed her my debit card again. She looks at me funny and says you already paid. I said no I didn't. She said I watched you put the receipt in your checkbook. So I look in there and I'm like OMG! I didn't even remember paying you. I've just got sooo much on my mind all the time.

ahh yes, sounds familiar...I forgot my pin number of my debit card when paying for groceries once. I had no cash but luckily one check left so I ended up using that instead. I just totally went blank (both kids were w/me!!) and had no idea what my number was......ugh! Rest is what you need, and some time to yourself!

I agree Val! Timmy and I did get a break today while the kids went to their greatgrands for a little while. My neighbor had a cookout/pool party, we had a great time and got to relax some!

I bet after reading this post, everyone digs out the monitor ear phones!

How frustrating for the both of you! I am glad you've identified the problem.

After attending JTC last year, I have been faithful about using the monitor ear phones and doing our lings each day...well at least 5/7 days of the week. You never know when something will go wrong!

Here's hoping that he adjusts quickly to his fixed ears and that he will once again be your happy lil man!
