The results are in!

I haven't heard anything from the doctors office all week, so I called this morning to check on Bray's blood work. Doctor hadn't looked over the results yet, she would call me back later. About 10 minutes later the nurse I spoke with called back. She told me that all Bray's test came back fine, except 2, and they were waiting on 1 to return. I asked what came back abnormal? She said his ASO titter came back really high, it was 753. I asked what is it suppose to be normally? She said 160 or below. OH MY GOSH! Then she told me his zinc was low. It was 5 hundred something and was suppose to be 600-1300. She then told me he was positive for PANDAS, but they don't know enough about it to treat it. So I got right on the internet trying to find doctors around us to treat this. I even called the doctor off the Today show that treated the little boy who had PANDAS. I left a message and hope to get a call back Monday. Right after that the insurance lady I've been fighting with about going to the Marcus Center called. I told her I didn't have time to argue with her today and the Marcus Center really didn't matter anymore. Shocked the lady asked what was going on. I told her Bray has been diagnosed with PANDAS. She shocked me by knowing what it was and told me we needed to find help immediately b/c he needed treatment and his blood needed to be cleanse. I told her I was searching high and low for doctors, I called all the hospitals in Atlanta, I wasn't getting anywhere. I was late to leave for Bray's appt. in Jacksonville. She told me to call our insurance and who to talk to to request a doctor that deals with PANDAS. Amazing how the woman I spent the last 6 + months fighting with gave me information and even knew about this PANDAS. I couldn't call the insurance on the way to Jacksonville, not with those two screaming kids in the car. I will call tomorrow and Monday.

Bray's appt. with his audiologist went great. She decided not to map him, but to do speech evals on him. He's hearing at 10-15 dbls. in both ears consistently. She performed 3 different test at different levels. With both ears on, only left, and then only right. He scored the best with both on. 2nd highest in the left(older ear), and worst in the right(newest ear). She was very pleased with his right ear though, next week his right ear will be a year old! Already! She said he's made very quick progress catching that ear up to the left. She said he was making appropriate speech substitutes for his age, so she wasn't very concerned with that. Told us he had a great vocab. She told us he was good to go, we just had to get it out of him. Which is still what baffles us. I'm glad to know that he's hearing great and understanding. If we can just get the equal amount of output! That would be awesome!

We took the kids to the St. Johns Town Center to see Santa. I just knew Bray would love it, b/c he's really been into Santa this year. NO! WRONG! He wouldn't sit in his lap, he would tell him what he wanted for Christmas. He just stood as far away as he could and screamed NO! Kenzee had no prob tell him what she wanted and taking a pic. So this year I've just got a pic of Kenzee and Santa. :) Santa did give him a coloring book and Bray told him thank you and gave him a high-five. Maybe next year Santa.

  1. Hi.

We have a daughter and son who we suspect are PANDAS. Our daughter lost her speech at 3.5y...

We are doing homeopathy to treat strep. Regular doctors tend to give zythromax or other antibiotics. We feel taht it actually made it worse for our kids three years ago...:-(

    All the best.

  2. I'm interested to know what exactly you're doing to treat it on your own? We too use a lot of homepathic remedies to treat our children. In what ways are you seeing results with the PANDAS?

    Thanks,
